			<abstract>
These datasets contain satellite imagery collected from the Landsat series
of satellites, using the Multi-Spectral Scanner (MSS) sensor. These MSS
images are made up of 60m pixels.
</abstract>
			<purpose>
Though MSS satellite imagery is of relatively poor spatial resolution by
today's standards, it is still a valuable tool for general landscape
identification and classification, as well as temporal studies of change
detection over time. The imagery may be used to view growth, urbanization
patterns and land usage over the 3 decade time span. It can also simply be
used as a background image on which to overlay other datasets.

		<logic>The MSS sensor captures image data in 4 distinct portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Three of the 4 bands are represented here (4,2,1), rendering a false color infrared image. Band 4 is near infrared, bands 2 and 1 correspond to the red and green portions of the visible spectrum. There are 3 different MSS images available, one from 1991, 1991 and 1991, plus or minus one year. Instances where images are named mss70s, mss80s, or mss90s refer to the fact that multiple images were stitched together to form an image mosaic to cover the geographic extent of any given county.
</logic>
		<complete>Certain counties may only have 2 of the 3 dates available, due to lack of data or extreme cloud cover for Any given area. Other images may have slivers of missing image data. These are areas where image data was unavailable for a given year, but enough was available to warrant inclusion.

The process step describes, in general, the process used in the production of data sets. The originating agencies created the original spatial coverage. GeoPlan, during the QA/QC process included the following aspects:
(1) Reprojected data to FGDL Albers
(2) Set Precision to DOUBLE
(3) Set Tolerances to FGDL Standards.
