FEATURE ATTRIBUTE TABLES CODES AND VALUES:
ITEM ITEM DESCRIPTION
SHAPE Data attribute inherent to the ESRI shapefile format,
which defines the data as a point, polyline, or polygon.
VERSION The Version is a 2-character value representing
the version number. The version is incremented
for all records in the database whenever a new
release is distributed. In this version, the
value is "02"
REVISION The REVISION is a 2-character value
representing the records revision number. The number
is incremented individually for each record
whenever a change is made to one of its fields.
(Revision numbers will not be reset with each new
release.) IN this version, the value will not
exceed "03".
MODDATE Record Modification Date
FEATURID Unique identifier for the port
DESCRIPT Name of port

USER NOTES:
The Ports database is a geographic database of the US Army Corps of Engineers
Ports in and around the United States, for analytical studies of waterway performance,
for compiling commodity flow statistics, and for mapping purposes.
Acknowledgment of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics National Transportation Atlas
Database would be appreciated in products derived from these data.
Data Set Credit: The National Waterway Network was created on behalf of the Bureau of
Transportation Statistics, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Bureau of Census,
and the U.S. Coast Guard by Vanderbilt University and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Additional agencies with input into network development include Volpe National Transportation
Systems Center, Maritime Administration, Military Traffic Management Command, Tennessee Valley
Authority, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Federal Railroad Administration.
The dataset provides location and attribute information for use in national and
regional cartographic and network analysis applications.
A note concerning data scale:
Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not
suitable for some project, analysis, or modelling purposes. Please be sure you are
using the best available data.
1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property
parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.
Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered
suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for
projects or analyses. Every effort has been made to supply the user with
data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the
Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
This data was originally created by the Vanderbilt Engineering Center for Transportation Operations and Research Vanderbilt University in 2001. The data was then released by the U.S. Department of Transportation - Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) in 2001. GeoPlan downloaded this data in shapefile format from BTS's website (http://www.bts.gov/gis/ntatlas/networks.html) in 2002. When received, the data was in the following projection: Geographic, Datum: NAD 83, Spheroid: GRS80, Units: Decimal Degrees. The shapefile was then clipped to the State of Florida, and projected to FGDL Albers HPGN (See "Map Projection Parameters" below).
