FLORIDA GEOGRAPHIC DATA LIBRARY DOCUMENTATION
VERSION 2003, RELEASED NOVEMBER, 2002.

TITLE: BROWNFIELD POINT LOCATIONS

Geodataset Name: BRNFPT
Geodataset Type: SHAPE
Geodataset Feature: POINT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This dataset contains Brownfield Point Locations for the State of Florida.
Brownfields are abandoned, idled, or underused industrial and commercial
facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or
perceived environmental contamination. Florida's Brownfields Redevelopment
Act primary goals are to reduce health and environmental hazards on
existing commercial and industrial sites that are abandoned or underused
due to these hazards and create financial and regulatory incentives to
encourage voluntary cleanup and redevelopment of sites.

USER NOTES:

The dataset provides location and attribute information for use in national and
regional cartographic and network analysis applications.

LIMITATIONS OF THE DATA / WARNINGS TO THE USER :

Because a variety of sources and methods were used to derive information for
this data, the quality of the linework may vary accordingly. This data is
intended to be used for general locational representation and should not be
considered appropriate for legal and/or cadastral purposes.
A note concerning data scale:
Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not
suitable for some project, analysis, or modelling purposes. Please be sure
you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county
level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered
suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for
projects or analyses. Every effort has been made to supply the user with
data documentation. For additional information, see the References section
and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more
information regarding scale and accuracy, see our web pages at:

EXPLANATION OF PROCEDURES USED TO TRANSFORM THE DATA
Points were derived for Brownfield Locations by converting lat/long information
in the database to an ArcView shapefile. The point locations were then compared
to their respective polygon boundaries. Where points did not fall within in
their Brownfields Area, they were moved. The new lat/long information was
obtained and then written back into the source Access database.
Locations and attributes of the original 44 Brownfields current at the time
of data development were visually verified by Camisha Clarke and Carl
Eichenberger and independently QCd by Patrick Pence.
10/31/01 A seventh Ocala Brownfield area was added by screen digitizing.
