GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This dataset contains the spatial extent of the Ocean Dumping Act in the 
State of Florida, which includes dredged materials disposal site boundaries.
This dataset was built from coordinates defined by the U.S. Environmental 
Protection Agency (EPA), Region 4.

USER NOTES:

This dataset was built from coordinates defined by the U.S. Environmental 
Protection Agency (EPA), Region 4. Coordinates are published in the Coastal 
Programs and Surface Water Quality Grants Section, Ocean Dumping Program and 
can be found at http://www.epa.gov/region4/water/oceans. These coordinates 
were then used to build ARC/INFO polygon coverages which were then attributed. 
Ocean disposal of dredged material is regulated under Titles I and II of the 
Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act (also known as the Ocean
Dumping Act). These data are based on interpretation of available information 
and should not be construed as legally binding.

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

This data was downloaded by the FGDL in 2002 from Ocean Planning and Governance
Geographic Information System (Ocean GIS) webpage at: 
http://www.csc.noaa.gov/opis/html/data.htm, in shapefile format. 
The data was clipped from the OPIS area (EPA Region 4) to the State of Florida 
and the DESCRIPT item was added based on UNIT_NAME.  Lowercase characters within 
the attribute table were upcased. When received, data was in Geographic projection,
Datum: NAD83, Spheroid: GRS1980, Units: Decimal degrees.
