FEATURE ATTRIBUTE TABLES CODES AND VALUES:
Item Item description
NAME county name; two-word county names are attached.
For the county names that contain a period, the
period is removed.
ABBRV_NAME consists of first four letters of county name plus the
fgdl 2-digit character code. For county names that
are shorter that 4 characters, the whole name is used.
FGDL_CODE Counties two-digit character codes as in the Florida
Geographic Data Library.
FIPS_CODE Federal Information Processing Standard Code

This data layer is useful as a base coverage for data viewing and mapping.

This dataset was created at the University of Florida Geoplan Center to support mapping projects. It was derived by combining data from the U.S. Census Bureau TIGER/Line File data for county boundaries and shoreline features from the 1:100,000-scale USGS Digital Line Graph dataset for hydrography.
