USER NOTES:
Attribute accuracy is relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the originl data layer

These data are for statewide mapping and analysis only. More recent data are available from FMRI for the South Florida Water Management District area. The original regional data sets may contain more detailed seagrass attribution schemes. This polygon GIS data set represents a compilation of statewide seagrass data from various source agencies and scales. The data sources were mapped from photography ranging in date from 1987 to 1999. The original source data sets were not all classified in the same manner; some used the Florida Land Use Cover and Forms Classification System (FLUCCS) codes 9113 for discontinuous seagrass and 9116 for continuous seagrass; some defined only presence and absence of seagrass, and some defined varying degrees of seagrass percent cover. In order to merge all of these data sources into one compilation data set, FMRI reclassified the various source data attribute schemes into two categories: "continuous" and "discontinuous" seagrass.

A note concerning data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale
datasetsare not suitable for some project, analysis, or
modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best
available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the county level.

1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base
mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the multi-county or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should
be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with
your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every
effort has been made to supply the user with data
documentation. For additional information, see the
References sectionand the Data Source Contact section of
this documentation. For more information regarding scale
and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

FMRI staff MAPJOINed seven regional seagrass data sets using ArcInfo Workstation.
The source data sets had different attribute schemes, that FMRI staff consolidated into
two categories for this data set: "continuous " and "discontinuous" seagrass. In areas
of overlap between source data sets, the more recent source was used. No edgematching
was performed between data sets of differing source dates. FMRI converted these data
to shapefile and geodatabase format for additional analyses. Data have been UNIONed
with county boundaries extended beyond Florida state waters.

GeoPlan downloaded this data in shapefile format from the FMRI FTP site: ftp.floridamarine.org/users/ism/datareq/ and projected to FGDL Albers HPGN. When received, the data was in Geographic projection, Datum: NAD 83, Spheroid: GRS1980. -Reprojected data to FGDL Albers HPGN -Deleted OBJECT_I field from attribute table -Added DESCRIPT field based on COUNTY_NAM -Renamed shapefile from seagrass_fl_1987to1999_poly to SEAGRASS_ST_WIDE -Upcased SEAGRASS field Process Date: 20030000
