TRL_KILOS The length of Existing trails in kilometers.
TRL_MILES The length of Existing trails in miles.
NAME2 AND NAME3 INFORMATION
Where more than one trail took the same route, the
NAME2 and NAME3 categories were used. The
information here is the same as for NAME (ie:
STATUS, TYPE, SUBTYPE, SOURCE, TRL_KILOS,
TRL_MILES). Hiking and multi-use trails are given
precedence over bicycle and other road-based trails.
If a hiking trail and a bicycle trail took the same
route, the hiking trail would be given the NAME
and the bicycle trail would be given the NAME2.
When deciding between two trails of the same type,
a national trail would be given precedence over a
regional or local trail.
MAINTAIN2 AND MAINTAIN3 INFORMATION
Where one or more parties are resposible for maintaining the
trail.

USER NOTES:
Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.
1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level.
1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.
Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
Originally this coverage was created and maintained by Kent Wimmer and the 1000 Friends of Florida. Many of the Items FNAME, FTYPE and TRAILNUM (this item has been dropped) are legacy attributes and are no longer maintained.
The GeoPlan Cneter has been contracted to maintain this coverage as part of the Florida Greenways Project. Most of the trails that are maintained by the GeoPlan Center are Recreational (Hiking, Off-Road Biking, Equestrian, Canoe, Kayak). Theodore Petritsch at Florida Department of Transportation is now maintaining Bike Lane information. You can contact him at (850) 487-1200.
The automation of this data layer was performed utilizing the US Census Tiger Roads data (FGDL layer TGRR90) as a basemap. Those trails that follow roads will map better with Tiger roads rather than DLG or another Roads database.
